Artificial intelligence seems to be everywhere right now. It’s changing how we work, learn, create, communicate, and even make decisions. Naturally, many people are asking, “How does God feel about AI?”
Here’s my perspective.
What AI Lacks
I think God sees AI the same way He views many of our human innovations: it’s a powerful tool that can do a great deal of good when it’s in the right hands and used with wisdom.
AI can help us research, create, learn, get organized, solve problems, and accomplish in minutes what might have once taken hours. In that sense, it’s an incredible resource.
Like any tool, the issue isn’t what it can do. It’s who’s leading while we use it.
A hammer can build a house or break a window. The hammer isn’t the problem. The heart holding it is what matters.
But here’s where I believe followers of Jesus should be cautious.
I’m hearing more and more people talk about turning to AI for help with relationships, parenting, major decisions, emotional struggles, and even figuring out how they should feel about situations in their lives.
I understand why.
AI is easy. It’s fast. And much of the time, it offers surprisingly helpful advice.
But AI is not connected to the Holy Spirit.
You are.
A Relationship with God
AI doesn’t know the voice of God. It doesn’t have a relationship with Jesus or access to the Holy Spirit like you do. AI does not have a relationship with The Living God. It cannot comfort, convict, heal, or give Holy Spirit guided wisdom. It can process enormous amounts of information, but it cannot shepherd your soul.
That’s an important difference.
So for those of us who follow Jesus, when it comes to matters of the heart and our most important relationships, the better question isn’t, “Should I ask AI?”
It’s, “Have I asked God first?”
The Bible reminds us:
“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.” — James 1:5
Followers of Jesus have direct access to the wisdom of God through the Holy Spirit. Our first instinct shouldn’t be to open an app. It should be to open our hearts to our Heavenly Father.
Use AI.
Learn from it.
Let it help you.
But don’t allow it to replace prayer, Scripture, wise counsel, or the leading of the Holy Spirit.
Because while AI can give you information, only God can lead you to transformation.
